ART
“I work with ‘green’ or wet wood. I turn vessels that are very thin, sometimes with a wall thickness of just a few millimetres and often include the bark or natural edge. As these vessels dry they move. These distortions are really an expression of the latent forces within the tree. I try and look for areas within the tree that have knots or side branches because these parts are generally rejected for production work and yet often contain the best colour and grain and result in the most expressive vessels”.
